We are less than two months away from the debut of Unlooped Versus Justin Vernon, the second show in the ‘Versus’ series. Mark you calendars for March 3, 2012 at Stonefly in Riverwest this one of a kind show that reinterprets the works and collaborations of Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon. Unlooped Versus Justin Vernon features performers Gina Barrington, Brendan Benham, Allen Cote, Alida LaCosse, Dave Olson, and Haz Solo. We have been working hard on perfecting the set. Unlooped Takes On Justin Vernon For The Next ‘Versus’ Show

After the success of Unlooped Versus Dilla, we proud to announce the next show in the ‘Versus’ series. On Saturday March 3, 2012, Unlooped will take on the work of Eau Claire’s Justin Vernon (Bon Iver, Gayngs, Volcano Choir, Kanye West). “Unlooped Versus Justin Vernon” assembled a stellar cast to deconstruct, re-interpret the musical catalog of Justin Vernon.

The lineup features Gina Barrington, Brendan Benham (Group of The Altos), Haz Solo, Allen Cote, Dave Olson (Plight of a Parasite, Figureheads), and Alida LaCosse. More information on this event will be coming in late December and January. Come back to Unlooped’s website for more details in the coming weeks.

Unlooped & Haz Solo Presents Winter Beats, Releases Sampler

While you wait for the next Unlooped ‘Versus’ show, we get in the holiday spirit with a very special show highlighting some of Milwaukee’s finest electronic producers and beatmakers!!! The new series is called “Winter Beats” and it is a partnership with Haz Solo.

The show will be on Friday, December 2 at bSide on 235 S 2nd Street in Milwaukee at 10pm. Come out of the cold for some of the hottest beats around. Featuring performances from Unlooped alumni and future Unlooped ‘Versus’ artists:

We are getting very excited for the return of Unlooped and the new series called ‘Versus’.

A few weeks ago we held the first rehearsal for Unlooped vs. Dilla, which willbe held on September 17 at Stonefly Brewery in Milwaukee. It was amazing to see the creative process from the different artists. Below is a recap video of the first rehearsal. It should give you a little taste of what to expect on September 17.

Gabriel Prokofiev’s Concertos for Turntables & Orchestra At Turner Hall

To kick off the Present Music season here in Milwaukee, they decided to do something in the same spirit of what we do at our monthly events – amazing collaborations! On September 18th at 8pm at Turner Hall Ballroom, Present Music will open their season with Gabriel’s Prokofiev’s Concertos for Turntables & Orchestra.

Concertos for Turntables & Orchestra was conceived by Gabriel Prokofiev, who is the grandson of the great Sergei Prokofiev. He attempted to answer the question is the turntable an instrument? Originally performed by the legendary DJ Yoda, who was in Milwaukee a few months back at Stonefly and The Heritage Orchestra, Concertos for Turntables & Orchestra will be performed by pianist extraordinaire Phillip Bush, Present Music Ensemble and 88Nines Jordan Lee aka DJ Madhatter, who is taking the place of DJ Yoda. Gabriel went on to create a very unique record label called Nonclassical.

“The idea behind the releases is to record forward-thinking, contemporary “classical” music and then invite musicians and producers who usually work in different genres of music to remix them. Artists such as Thom Yorke (Radiohead), Hot Chip, Simon Tong (The Good, The Bad and The Queen, Gorillaz & The Verve) John Maclean (The Beta Band & The Aliens), and Gabriel Prokofiev have remixed pieces for the label to stunning effect.”

Def Harmonic’s Lunaversol9 Takes Over August’s Unlooped

A Novel Slur is a five song EP focusing on the recovery side of a broken heart

This month’s Unlooped is special. Hometown hero Lunaversol9 from Def Harmonic and Buffalo takes the night over. We are starting the night early at 9pm with a special listening party for Lunversol9′s solo EP “A Novel Slur”, which will be released on August 31st on Milwaukee’s Listening Party Records home of Decibully and Minneapolis Look Book.

“Written in 2006 and recorded during numerous attic sessions over a number of years with producer and drummer Ted Brusubardis (Strong Computer, Leo Minor, Buffalo), A Novel Slur’s five songs focus on the recovery side of a broken heart (although“Hellbent”, a track produced by JTodd, is about smoking). Written while still active in her other group with JTodd, Def Harmonic (1999-present), the songs were performed for a few years around Milwaukee, then set aside as Luna and Ted moved through to other projects.” Take an exclusive listen of one of Lunaversol9′s tracks from “A Novel Slur”

Lunaversol9 – “Now I Get (Get It All)”

Following the listening party, Lunaversol9 will join electronic artist Erik Schoster aka He Can Jog for a live collaboration set. Along with original music, the set will feature a visual element.

Then we conclude the event with an amazing energetic set from Milwaukee’s The Demix, the self-described Dark Knight of electronic expereimentalism.
